How Gates of Olympus Multipliers Work

The winged orbs are the reason Gates of Olympus can pay thousands of times the bet. They follow a few simple rules that differ slightly from game to game. Here's how they add up in the base game and in free spins, with real examples from our demo rounds and a calculator to try your own.

The colour and shape of an orb are decoration: the number printed on it is what pays. The rarer crystal designs carry the top values of each game.

Rule 1: in the base game, orbs add up

Orbs can land on any spin or tumble. When the tumbling sequence ends, the game adds together every multiplier on the screen and multiplies the total win of the whole sequence by that sum.

Example. A spin and its tumbles win 3.00 in total. A 5x and a 10x orb are on the screen at the end. 5 + 10 = 15, so the spin pays 3.00 × 15 = 45.00, not 3.00 × 50.

No win, no pay. An orb on a spin without a winning combination pays nothing. That's why you'll often see a big orb land and vanish.

POP keeps them on screen. In Gates of Olympus POP an orb stays in place until the tumbling sequence is over, so a long chain of tumbles can collect several of them before the sum is applied.

A 2x orb in the base game of the original. It only counts if the spin wins.

Rule 2: in free spins, orbs build a total

In free spins each orb that lands on a winning spin is added to a total multiplier, shown at the side of the grid. The total lasts until the round ends and never goes down. Whenever a later winning spin brings a new orb, its win is multiplied by the whole total, including the new orb.

In the standard rule, used by the original, 1000, Xmas 1000, Super Scatter, POP and 2500's Free Spins 1, a winning spin without a new orb is paid without the total.

Gates of Olympus free spins: a 2x orb lands on a spin with eight red gems, starting the total multiplier.
Our round in the original: a 2x orb on a win starts the total at 2x.
Gates of Olympus free spins: a 5x orb lands and the tumble win of 2.10 dollars is multiplied by 7.
Later a 5x arrives: 2 + 5 = 7, and that win of $2.10 is multiplied by 7.

In that round the total climbed to 17x and then 29x. A total like that turns a modest cluster of gems into a real win, which is why the first few orbs of a round matter so much.

Rule 3: 2500's Free Spins 2, where every orb counts

Gates of Olympus 2500 has a second kind of round. In Free Spins 2 (and Super Free Spins 2) every orb that lands is added to the total, whether its spin wins or not, and the total multiplies every win for the rest of the round, not only wins that bring a new orb.

The difference is dramatic. In our bought Free Spins 2 round the total went from 8x to 18x to more than 50x, and every win along the way was multiplied by it. One tumble sequence paid $822.80 at a $2.00 bet. The round finished at $990.80.

The price reflects it: Free Spins 2 costs 250x to buy, against 100x for Free Spins 1.

Gates of Olympus 2500 Free Spins 2: the total multiplier column on the left shows 18x, a 2x orb is on the grid, the win reads 134.50 dollars with 9 free spins left.
Free Spins 2 in 2500: the total has reached 18x and applies to every win.

Rule 4: Super free spins start at 10x

Two games sell a "super" round. In Super Scatter's Super Free Spins (500x) and 2500's Super Free Spins 1 and 2 (500x and 1,250x), the smallest possible orb is 10x. With no 2x to 8x orbs, the total grows much faster: in our Super Scatter round it reached 87x by the tenth spin and 139x by the end.

Faster growth doesn't mean better value. The listed RTP of these buys is the same as, or a fraction below, the regular buy. You pay five to twelve times more for a round that tends to pay more.

What will this spin pay?

Separate orb values with commas, for example 5, 10. Leave the field empty if no new orb landed.

Multiplier applied: 15x Spin pays: 45.00

Standard rule: without a new orb the win is paid as it is. In 2500's Free Spins 2 the total, plus any new orbs, multiplies every win. Win caps (5,000x to 50,000x) are not applied here.

Three common mistakes

"Two orbs multiply each other."
They don't. 5x and 10x make 15x. Orbs on the same spin are always added.
"A big orb always pays big."
Only if the spin wins. A 500x orb on a losing spin pays nothing, and on a 0.25x win it pays 125x.
"The total multiplier applies to every free spin."
Only in 2500's Free Spins 2 types. Everywhere else it applies when a new orb lands on a winning spin.
