Two things stand out. First, the differences between modes are tiny: a few hundredths of a percent. Paying for the ante or the buy doesn't change the long-run return in any meaningful way; it changes how the same return is spread out. Second, POP is the outlier. The demo we played lists 97.05%, the highest in the series, while Pragmatic Play's own game page shows 96.54%. Pragmatic offers casinos more than one version of many games, so the figure you get depends on where you play.

Volatility and max win

Every Pragmatic game shows a volatility badge on its intro screen and repeats it in the rules. These are the labels the games give themselves, not our opinion.

Low: POP. Frequent small wins, a gentler ride.

Medium: the original and Super Scatter. Wins come regularly, with occasional big peaks.

High: the 1000, Xmas 1000 and 2500. Long quiet stretches are normal, and a single bonus can make or break a session.

The cap is the most you can win from one spin or one free spins round, as a multiple of your bet. When a round reaches it, the round ends at once and any remaining spins are lost.

What 96.50% actually means

RTP, return to player, is the share of all money staked that a game is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. At 96.50%, the game keeps on average 3.50 of every 100 staked.

An example: 1,000 spins at 1.00 is 1,000.00 staked. At 96.50% RTP the long-run average cost of that play is 35.00. But "average" is doing a lot of work. In a slot where a single free spins round can pay hundreds of times the bet, real sessions land far from the average in both directions, and most sessions on a high-volatility game end below it. RTP describes the game, not your evening.

That's also why the RTP of a bonus buy matters less than it seems. A 100x buy at 96.50% loses 3.50 per 100 bets on average, the same as spinning, but each individual buy can return 20x or 2,000x. Our five demo buys ranged from 32.75x to 821.3x the bet.

How to check the RTP at your casino

  1. Open the game

Load it in real-money or demo mode at the casino you plan to use. The version can differ from casino to casino.

  2. Press the "i" button

It opens the rules. On desktop it sits at the bottom left; on phones it's in the bottom bar.

  3. Find the game rules page

Next to the volatility badge you'll see "The theoretical RTP of this game is…" and the RTP of each ante or buy.

  4. Compare

If the figure is lower than in our table, you're on a lower-RTP version. Consider playing somewhere else.
